The Domus

The location of the Domus Comeliana, house to the Institutio Santoriana Fondazione Comel, is endowed with significance, for both its history and topography.

The perimeter of the Domus is defined by the historical complex of the Duomo (west), the monumental urban walls dating 1155 (north), the 19th-century Via Cardinal Maffi (south), and the modern Via San Ranierino (east), built in the 1950s. Being the closest private building to the famous Prato del Duomo, the beautiful 19th-century villa was purchased by Professor Comel in 1947 from the heirs of the prestigious Bottari family.

Comel’s transformative approach, aimed at turning the exclusive property into a cutting-edge conference and research venue, developed along three macro-areas of intervention: the refurbishment of the historical building, the creation of a Pavillion (the current exhibition centre), and the design of the garden and terraces.
