The closest private building to the Leaning Tower and the Prato del Duomo, the 19th-century villa was purchased by Professor Marcello Comel in 1947 from the heirs of the Bottari family.
Since then, the building has been significantly enlarged and refurbished to realise Comel’s scientific and humanistic vision.
The rooms of the ground floor were destined to host a rich library focused on the medical humanities, and a suite of reading and study rooms. The first and second floors, comprising the Presidential Suite and its enchanting terrace, were conceived to host eminent guests and scholars from all over the world.
As a whole, this long-lasting enterprise served the purpose of fostering the vibrant scientific community gathered around Professor Comel. Today, it carries on Comel’s unique legacy in the medical humanities, and arts and letters.
