The Institutio Santoriana Fondazione Comel was established in Milan in 1992 by Physiology and Dermatology Professor Marcello Comel, a distinguished scholar, philanthropist, collector and patron of the arts.
Comel’s enterprise was enlightened by his commitment to build a long-lasting legacy in the fields of medical humanities, and arts and letters. In so doing, Comel aimed to honour the memory of his wife, Doctor Maria Cecilia Bernardo, and their child Camillo.
The Foundation was acknowledged as a charitable trust by the Lombardy District in 1993, and obtained recognition at national level in December 2010.
